Subject: [K12OSN] Samba/LDAP configuration script available

K12LTSP Community,
The goal in our school district during the last few months has been to build a linux network that would allow all types of clients to authenticate and access home directories. However, the time and expertise required to install and configure LDAP/Samba was an issue.

We are happy to announce that we have developed a script that drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to install and configure LDAP/Samba on a K12LTSP 4.2 server (less than 30 minutes).

People are getting very frusterated with the Citrix Thin Clients. Especially the WYSE terminals. Cut, Paste issues especially. Cursor moving around.

Older terminals cannot keep up with typing speed. Staff try to find ways around the issues, but it is time consuming and is affecting the work.

Losing e-mail from crashes is another big issue for some users.

“Citrix does not support Voyager very well” - end user comment. Losing connections to network drives. information saved to drive lost on occassion. People using stand alone PC’s, when they have to use thin clients, they cannot do their work.

Managed PC’s with standard software stacks & an inability for users to add software on their own seems to be the favored good.
